Tough As A Tunland
The Foton Tunland double Cab and I went around the Highstakes four by four track and the Cummins ISF engine seemed to idle through the challenges and roar through the really rough terrain.
The stiff chassis of the Foton Tunland was put through the ultimate test during some of the obstacles that I threw at it. Deep rutted tracks with alternating holes challenged the ground clearance element of the Tunland’s design, while other obstacles put the 4X4 low range capabilities of the Double Cab through its paces. Steep hill ascents showed how the Foton Tunland’s approach and departure angles enhanced its off road capabilities. The 2.8 litre turbo-diesel, 4-cyclinder, Cummins ISF engine rose to every occasion. The Cummins engine is coupled to a Getrag gearbox and the easy to engage four wheel drive system made conquering the most challenging situations that much easier in the Tunland.
The Tunland meets the stringent Euro IV worldwide emission standards, and has no trouble producing a the reported 120kW of power with the help of the wastegated turbocharger and a Bosch full electronic control high-pressure common rail fuel injection system. Foton also report as much as 360Nm of torque from revs as low as 1800 to 3000rpm. More good news about the Tunland are the reported consumption figures at an average of 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres. Even though it is a big buff 4X4 double cab, the Tunland still accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in just 13.5 seconds. It is governed at at a maximum speed of 160 kilometres per hour. The Tunland took everything we threw at it in its stride and hardly had to even breath heavily. It was an impressive display of power and ability.
