ASX Me
Driving the Mitsubishi ASX was a pleasant experience, the expansive panoramic sunroof let in so much light that every detail of the upgraded interior. The easy to understand dials and controls on the tactile and stylish dash fell short of being chunky and managed to achieve a likeable masculine functionality. Something even a woman owner of the ASX would enjoy. But it was the go forward attitude of the Mitsubishi ASX that got my attention. The two litre petrol engine with variable valve timing spurred the manual five speed gearbox on with such enthusiasm it was positively thrilling. Reported fuel consumption figures are 7,5 litres per 100 kilometres in a combined cycle but I had so much fun with the zealous acceleration I could not get anywhere near them. The zero to hundred hero acceleration of 9,6 seconds seemed a lot less at the time, but then I didn’t stop at 100. Cornering, braking, aggressive lane changes and bold speed bump jumping was all very enjoyable in the ASX, the suspension provided adequate comfort while maintaining the weight distribution nice and even and the ASX managed to keep all four tyres on the tar through some of the most hair raising traffic circles. All the mod cons I would like to have in my car were there, the list of familiar acronyms goes on, my favourite being the well tested traction control that Mitsubishi calls Active Stability Control (ASC). It was very active while I was driving. Go get yourself one.
