It’s Love At First Sight
Driving the seductive Renault Clio 4 brought home to me just why this new model offering from Renault is causing such a big stir in the car world. Renault’s design identity is ultra modern and very fresh, with a distinctly upmarket feel.
The list of tech toys the new Clio has been equipped with includes Renault’s keycard, Cruise control with speed limiter, Hands-free telephony and Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming. The USB connectivity will allow you to play your music through Renault’s new Bass Reflex sound system, which produces excellent sound quality.
The onboard computer and Hill Start Assist are elements usually found in much bigger cars and the motorway touch indicators lend an element of luxury to the whole driving experience. The new Clio has been reaping in the awards from the moment it appeared on the motoring scene and has been awarded a Five Star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The Clio heritage in South Africa is something Renault can brag about, having won Car of The Year in 2000 and making it through as a finalist in the COTY competition for 2006 and 2007. It was also a European Car of the Year finalist 2013 and there is a string of accolades too long to list here.
Renault’s involvement in Formula 1 is reported to have had an influence in the development of the new Clio and the new Clio 4 delivers 66 kilowatts from the turbo charged three cylinder engine. The 135 Newton meters of torque go a long way to helping the Clio reach reported figures of just 4,5 litres of fuel per hundred kilometres.
Safety features include ESP, ASR, ABS, EBD, EBD just to get started. The new Clio 4 comes standard with an industry leading 5 year or 150 000 kilometre mechanical warranty plus a 3 year or 45 000 kilometre service plan and a six year anti-corrosion warranty.
