The GTi Is 35
It was the summer of 76 when the Volkswagen Golf GTi 35 burst onto the scene, making such an impact that it fast became the most successful compact sports car in the world. A firm favourite for many in the Volkswagen line-up is the Volkswagen Golf GTi. An excellent choice considering, and then there is enhanced model that GTi has just launched, a special Golf GTi Edition 35. Edition 35 produces an awe-inspiring 173kiloWatts of power and 300 Newton meters of torque with just a body weight of just 1 400 kilograms. Blistering acceleration of just 6.6 seconds for the zero to a hundred dash, and a top end of 247 kilometres per hour. The 2.0 litre, turbocharged, direct injection EA113 engine is the heart of the GTi. It has been engineered with added strength to transfer the extra torque to the crankshaft. And it can still produce fuel consumption figures of 8.1 litres per 100 kilometres. Test driving the GTi is a must and if you have even driven a Volkswagen Golf GTi then you would understand why I say that. There is something in the feeling of total control that the “Wheel-in-each-corner” design of the GTi gives you. The confidence in the corners and the feeling of take off when the acceleration kicks in. If you could improve on the GTi, this is one sure way to do it.
