Europe’s Car Of The Year- Driven
The Volkswagen Golf VII was chosen as Europe’s Car of the Year 2013 and I had the absolute pleasure of test-driving the 2.0 litre TDi derivative. In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen AG, Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn said, This is a superb result and we are very proud of it. This most significant European award is the perfect final touch to the list of prizes we have already won. Over 29 million customers have made the Golf into the icon that it is. The new Golf will continue this success story. Well if the way the two-litre diesel Volkswagen Golf VII performs, is anything to go by, then Winterkorn will not be mistaken. The fact that the Golf VII snatched the international coveted award is just another testament to this cars worth. Volkswagen sold over 760 units in its first month of trading, need I say more? Yes, I need to say more, because this car really put a smile on my face. It has everything you can look for in a car. Handling that gives you confidence, braking that eases tension and interior comfort that swells the chest with pride. For me the interior of the new Golf was more like a luxury Audi, and the powerful performance was matched with a rigid chassis and fantastic suspension. You too can take a new Golf VII for a test drive.
